My name is Gabi "Gg," and I am a 38 year old disabled mother of two awesome boys from Oklahoma with an extreme passion for fishing. I am a fighter of very progressive SLE Lupus that is malfunctioning and paralyzing my organs one at a time, which makes it hard to function daily, but even with 5 organs affected so far I refuse to let that slow me down. I am my youngest sons homeroom mom at school, a sports mom, a singer, founder of a suicide prevention gaming group, a advocate for Lupus and other autoimmune disorders, a three time Oklahoma sponsored fisherman, the founder of Gg's Fight bait, and I fish up to 6 days a week to not only embrace my passion but to show my kids and others that no matter what stands in their way to fight for their dreams, to live.Â
The fish I caught in this picture is an 18.9 lb - 3.3 ft long Carp from an Oklahoma Lake at an indoor fishing pier. I was there on this particular day in the hopes of catching and kissing a fish for good luck as I was on my way to the hospital for a scheduled surgery and didn't have very much time. Â
Fishing indoors, if fishing for big game, can be very tricky and hard to maneuver. In this particular indoor pier, that I caught this Carp in, it has brush and objects in the middle to make it more "life like" for the fish so it's very easy to get hung up or get snapped off on. Once I hooked this Carp it swam all throughout the brush, battling me every way it could indoors for over 20 minutes until I got him free and tired him out.
Then I realized that it was almost a 3 ft drop over the railing to get to the water with a net, and I was alone in the pier with no net assistance.
So, I had to fight this Carp over to where my net was, turn my fishing pole upside down, pull the Carp up on top of the water while bending as far down as I could, and barely get it into the net. Although I had it netted I had to keep most of the net in the water until I could open my bail with one hand, drop my pole and grab the net with both hands finally pulling this Carp up out of the water. It was a true challenge, and I loved every minute of it!Â
I have a few goals as a fisherman. I would love to go deep sea fishing, as I've never been deep sea fishing before and possibly catch a shark. I would love to help others by representing their companies, shops, and/or items to gather more customers and business for them while I fish. However, I mostly would like to motivate others through my passion for fishing with this life-threatening and debilitating illness to chase their dreams no matter what stands in their way. To NEVER give up!
